Blind spots affect even talented senior teams either within one NGO and across several working on a joint programme. They produce ongoing problems such as silo mentalities, poor communication, under achievement and stress. They can also create cultures based on hubris, blame, indifference, greed etc. which though felt, are rarely articulated or fully seen - hence blind spot.

I specialise in helping team members notice blind spots and discover innovative new answers to the challenges they present. I do this either as a new team forms, needs to be turned round due to performance difficulties or wants to up its game to the next level.

My approach is refreshingly simple. It helps teams avoid these common challenges and accomplish the following:
  • Going round in circles - by reading tricky situations clearly and pinpointing what will aid progress more precisely
  • Feeling baffled by others' behaviour - by understanding what makes us humans tick and creates the experiences we have

  • Mood swings - by seeing how inhibiting and enabling mindsets work and why both show up in conversations

Task Description

You feel something's not quite right in your team. You can't quite put your finger on the all the reasons why. You want clarity on the potential causes of the problem and the options open to you going forward.

This confidential and frank conversation, with an independent person who has a lot of experience of helping teams and their leaders, is designed to help you explore alternative ways of moving forward.

The 90-minute conversation will take place on the Zoom teleconferencing platform and be structured as follows:

  • We'll spend the first 10 minutes introducing ourselves and headlining the main problem you want to work on.
  • For 20 minutes after that we'll explore the context in which the team is working and the main people involved.
  • In the next 20-30 minutes we'll recap on the facts surrounding the problem, before hypothesising on its cause/s
  • In the final third of the call we'll co-create possible, practical ways forward and gauge which of these is likely to be most helpful to you.

The intention behind this conversation is to help you achieve these outcomes:

  • More clarity about the problem's different components and causes
  • A list of actions that are most likely to resolve it
  • A gauge on which of these is most helpful to you
  • A high level plan to put into action.
